17percent - Promoting female playwrights

17percent is a social enterprise which aims to redress the gender imbalance of plays being produced in the UK, by providing women with opportunities to develop as writers, through peer-to-peer networking and educational opportunities, championing women’s achievements in the theatre, promoting female writers and providing positive female role models and inspirations.

We will do this through:

1) Peer to peer education, networking and support: A series of education and networking opportunities including courses, feedback and mentoring.

2) Promotion of female playwrights: To promote the work of female playwrights amongst the UK theatre industry and to audiences, new and existing, through promotion of their work, and education about their work, including the creation of a comprehensive searchable online database of UK female playwrights from Aphra Behn to Polly Stenham. We will instigate a new short festival of plays by women.
